Poor Ormie! He works so hard to get those cookies…His predicament truly is relatable…

What he does not know is that, in the end, he is lucky that the cookies did not cross his lips. Cute little Ormie would have been better off opening that beautiful refrigerator and picking something out from the veggie bin. Alas, we all have made those impulsive decisions and have chosen the cookie rather than the apple at one time or another.

For that very reason, I always suggest a strategy that has worked very well for me: do not bring into your home any type of food you know you will succumb to when you are hungry and reaching for pretty much anything edible that’s not nailed to the ground. I’m talking about those chips, brownies, bars, cookies, sweets, pastries, candy bars and sodas we all love to hate but quickly resort to in a moment of temporary insanity. I simply bypass them at the store and never have them around at home.

Instead, with just a little bit of ingenuity and planning, it is easy to have plenty of fruit, vegetables, hummus, whole grain crackers, olives or boiled eggs for a quick snack for those times when you feel “hangry” and nothing will keep you from raiding that fridge. I think I’ll take Ormie along next time I go shopping. Perhaps together we can “cookie proof” his next snack attack. After all, I love Ormie and I want him to be around for a long time…
